Proposal: Performance Piece

Ideas your working with

I am playing with the idea that exclusion and uncertainty will provoke the emotion of helplessness and fright. That excluding one sense of a human being, that we rely on our entire life, such as the exclusion of sight can provoke panic.

Describe what your planning on doing

My idea is to find a way to create an emotion of helplessness, and vulnerability. My idea is to have chairs arranged around the room each in a specific place. This is to create an atmosphere in which one person will feel vulnerable. On each chair there will be a set of instructions that will have some of the audience members actively participating in the events and there will be one person in the front of the room facing the wrong way. Once everyone has had time to find a seat and read their instructions one participant will turn off the room lights and another participant will turn on the spot lights. This is when I will enter the room. I will start taunting the one person to look back. I will make loud noises, run as close as I can to the one person whisper. As I perform these tasks some of the audience will interact with what I am doing by the rules written on their card. The person in front will have a few objects that will give the illusion of helping but each object will be defective and not help at all. An example of these objects in a small mirror that with be smudged so they cant use it to look behind them.

Inspiration

I am inspired by my curiosity of human nature and what evokes certain emotions. This includes what senses humans rely on to protect them and how they react to this situation.
Help

I do not need help with this project just the audiences participation on performance day.

Overview of Ideas

I have choose to make the emotion of helplessness and vulnerability the main focus of my performance piece because I believe people are rarely put into situations where they feel it. To some it may happen all the time but for others who are usually in control I want to see exactly what it takes and what happens if helplessness and vulnerability is achieved.
